June 2008Control Solutions Opens New Boise, Idaho OfficeControl Solutions, Inc. has expanded its automatic identification (Auto ID) technology business into the Boise, Idaho area. Andy Kyger, formerly vice president and co-owner of Boise’s I-O Technologies, has joined Control Solutions to manage Boise-area opportunities and to transition current I-O Technologies customers to the company. Kyger has 12 years of experience in Auto ID technology sales and support. Richard E. Mahmarian, president and CEO of Control Solutions, says the expansion will increase coverage for Control Solution’s growing customer base. “While we have always had a presence in the area, we are now better able to serve our mutual customers in the eastern Washington and Oregon, Idaho and Utah areas,” Mahmarian says. “In addition, Andy will continue to manage the former I-O Technologies customer base, and will now be able to offer more support and service capabilities available through Control Solutions.” Applying the UID 2-D Data Matrix to Your Product(This article is second in a series on UID) One of the requirements for markings on parts for the Department of Defense (DoD) UID program is that the data matrix symbol can be applied in any of three ways---“so long as it remains permanent throughout the life of the item and is not damaged or destroyed in use.” Bensman, James. Less commonly used but viable marking methods include: dot peen, metal stamp, engraving, electrical arc pencil, embossing, cast or forged (bumpy bar codes) and rubber stamp stencil.
